WORLD No. 1 Lee Chong Wei is seeking personal satisction when he takes on Denmarks Peter-Gade Christensen today in a bid to top Group A in the Super Series Masters Finals at the Li Ning Gymnasium.

Chen Long made quite a lot of mistakes in the first game and I took advantage.

But he proved that he is the better player with a strong showing in the second game, said Kenichi, who ces Lin Dan in his second group match today.

Lin Dan is expected to make the semi-finals as the Group B champion and may meet Christensen in the other semi-final.

Y., was a visit to the MacKenzie- Childs showroom in the Village of Aurora on the shores of Cayuga Lake, one of the beautiful finger lakes. It is located on a 65-acre rm with a restored Victorian rmmackenzie childs potteryhouse, a duck pond, a gothic revival aviary, and a meadow where a herd of Scottish Highland cattle graze. It is also where, since 1983, their ctory has been producing ceramics, tableware, and home furnishings for sale in outlets in New York, Florida, and online.

We viewed a video in the visitors’ center, toured the rmhouse, enjoyed a cup of tea in the courtyard shop, then wandered through the shop gawking at all the one-of-a-kind collectibles.

Janice was afraid I wouldn’t like it and had prepared John to entertain me while Linda shopped. However, I loved it and accompanied my wonderful wife throughout the shopping spree. Linda bought several oven timers shaped like chickens (Gamecocks) and two bowls for Deuce, our precious dog. Total price: $90. Nuf sed.

Collaborating with med high porcelain maker Lladr, the artist jumps into the toy market with his own limited-edition porcelain characters.

Remember the Dunny? The devil bunny vinyl toy collectible characters that illustrators would design over and then people wporcelainould buy so they could sell them for more on eBay? Just in time for Christmas, the high porcelain manucturer Lladr has done the Kidrobot set one better with its own line of characters, called The Guest, designed byJaime Hayonand similar in style if not in material. Two additional versions were created by Tokyo-based design collectiveDevilrobots, mous for their own To-Fu Oyako character, andTim Biskup, the L.A.-based painter known for his pop surrealist monster characters.

The main challenge in the collection was getting the drawings submitted by the designers ithfully reproduced at all, Hayon tells Co.Design. The coloring was difficult too. Lladr still operates using a handmade process that is carried out in artisan workshops in The City of Porcelain, Valencia, Spain.

But Hayon, a native Spaniard and artistic advisor to the brand, says the workers eventually figured it out. One of the major benefits of trying to do something like this in porcelain, he says, is that it is highly versatile. It is a material that admits almost any shape and decoration, he says.

AN exhibition of ceramics pottery by two masters is held at Studio At Straits at 86, Lebuh Armenian until Sunday.

Asian potters are a rare breed but Alex Tan Ghee Chiao, 57, and Cheah Yeow Seng, 54, both from Kuala Lumpur intend to kindle the love for the art form.

Graduates of Kuala Lumpur College of Art, they have participated in exhibitions and workshops locally and abroad.

Self-taught potter Tan used to work in a clay ctory and is now a partner owner of Moon Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, which has been exporting its ceramic products to Japan for the 10 years.

He was also one of 10 artists selected to work for the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Tan was also the only potter featured in Making Tracks, a 2005 exhibition sponsored by Badan Warisan Malaysia in conjunction with Malaysian Railway Networks 120th year celebration.

For Cheah, it was a hobby that has turned into a career.

The process of creating something exquisite is therapeutic and good for the soul, said Cheah at the exhibitions opening ceremony.

Clay is also very special. Its a soft, flexible material but once it hardens, its set.

It also has its limitations. If you are working on something small, the clay can take any shape you want but anything larger, more technique is needed to make it work, he explained.

His immaculate designs are from his throw-and-alter method.

Cheah makes trips to Japan to be updated on the art of pottery .

He is the founder and instructor of the Tower of Clay Pottery Studio in Kuala Lumpur.

Curator Wong Li Leng said more exhibitions of this nature should be organised, especially in Penang where the art is gaining popularity.

Diageo Uses Experiential Marketing in China vintage china

Diageois the latest luxury-goods company to try experiential marketing in China, where many newly affluent consumers are unmiliar with the heritage of Western brands and want guidance on how to appreciate unmiliar foreign products.

In the view of the global beverage giant, single malt whiskeys ll into this category. Earlier this year, Diageo opened the first Johnnie Walker House outside Scotland in Sinan Mansions, a chic nightspot district in Shanghai.

The three-story restored house, which has the feel of a private residence, is managed by Singaporean Lawrence Law, brand director for engagement marketing in China for Johnnie Walker at Moet Hennessy Diageo (MHD), the distributor in China. Johnnie Walker is the countrys No. 2 whiskey, after Pernods Chivas Regal.

We want to build a Scotch whiskey culture in China, [particularly among] stylish, progressive, sophisticated entrepreneurs, Mr. Law said this week on Thoughtful China, an online marketing-afirs talk show produced in Shanghai (see video below).

For now, entry to the Johnnie Walker House is limited to ultrarich businessmen and their well-heeled adult children; celebrities, such as actors Chen Kun and Xia Yu, and film director Peter Chan; and local trendsetters.

Those who receive a coveted invitation are offered a unique, one-on-one chance to learn about Scotch whiskey. On the ground floor, which features a scale model of a Scottish distillery, visitors are educated about raw materials: barley, water and peat. A sleek bar has been installed on the top floor. But the middle floor holds the real treasure.

An interactive sensory blending table in a semicircular room is lined with dozens of numbered — but, importantly, unlabeled — bottles of single malt Scotch. High-end liquor is often a status symbol in China, but Diageo wants future connoisseurs to indulge their palates rather than their desire to impress. When placed in the center of the display table, a digital code embedded in the bottom of the bottle initiates an electronic display with information about the contents, while simultaneous sampling illustrates the fundamental aromatic and tasting notes of Scotch whiskey.

Whiskey is still relatively new to wealthy Chinese, who historically celebrated with local spirits like Baijiu, a white spirit distilled from rice, or with cognac. But its catching on st in a country where 20 million new consumers reach the legal drinking age each year.

Sales to China are up 35% this year. Greater whiskey consumption has led to an increased desire for information, which Diageo is happy to provide, said Mr. Law of MHD. We look at what we call creating the new Chinese gentlemen. You cant just know wines, cognacs and Baijiu now. Knowing whiskey is important too.

Diageos companions on experiential marketing projects in China include luxury marketers of Swiss watches, fine wines, jewelry and shion.

Experience does matter a lot for the luxury consumers because they need to feel the brand. Its very important for them to understand the culture of the brand and believe in what the brand is selling them, said Elan Shou, senior VP and managing director-China at Ruder Finn.

In other examples, a Home of Alfred Dunhill store was established in a restored neoclassical villa in Shanghai several years ago, and Hermes-owned Shang Xia celebrated its one-yearvintage china anniversary in September.

Cartier has held classic-jewelry exhibits in China, and Giorgio Armani has opened Armani bars.LOrealcreated an online social network, Rose Beauty, around its Lancome brand to offer advice beyond skin care and cosmetics.

But one of the things that brands need to think about [is], What do I want to give these people over and above selling them my product? You have to lock into the lifestyle of those people [and find out] what is important to them, he added

Lots of shoppers, especially outside of the tier-one cities, are new to luxury brands and easily scared away, said P.T. Black, Thoughtful Chinas senior creative director.

Brands talk about the education of the customer, but education goes both ways, Mr. Black said. Its all well and good to talk about a great wine vintage, but will it go with Cantonese or Shanghainese food? Which pen makes the right gift for what level of business partner? Whats the right purse to buy for a wife? Whats the right purse to buy for a not-wife?

NEW LENOX Some military personnel will get a special Christmas gift this lenoxyear, thanks to two New Lenox businesses.

Friends and mily are invited to videotape personal messages to their loved ones in the military. Tyler Morris, owner of Wild West Online Productions, and Ann Piasecki, owner of Family Back Stories, will help record, edit and post the video snippets on YouTube. Service members overseas will be able to access their personal messages via the Internet.

This is a free event, open to the public. It will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the New Lenox Village Hall, 1 Veterans Parkway. Families will be recorded on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are not necessary.

Mayor Tim Baldermann said that one of the great things about the village is the community volunteerism. He is pleased that small-business owners, like Morris and Piasecki, take the initiative.

Piasecki thanked the village board Monday for offering the village hall as the location to do the filming. She said it was appropriate to have the event on Veterans Parkway in a village known as the Home of Proud Americans.

From ancient Arabia to the mysterious Orient, from local wildlife to African exotica — you can see it all in Sant Rafel. Years ago, this village between Eivissa and Sant Antoni was a major centre of handmade pottery on an island renowned for its arts and crafts and it is still a designated artisanal zone.

Now there are just two ceramic workshops remaining — and what a treat they are. Their showrooms are stuffed with a diverse array of objects, from practical vases, plates, bowls and lampstands, to masks, plaques and even some amazing totem poles.

Carlos at Cerámicas Icardi is originally from Uruguay and set out to visit a friend in Majorca way back in 1977. He had to travel viaIbiza, an island that so captivated him that it was a further eight years before he managed the short hop across to the larger island to find his long-lost pal.

His range of techniques is impressive; there’s an Arabian method which utilises a metallic-looking glaze and exotic raku from the Far East to name but two. Apart from recreations of the Phoenician busts in Ibiza’s Archeological Museum, all the designs are down to his own creativity.

His efforts have not gone unrewarded; Carlos’s work has featured in several prestige exhibitions and he is highly regarded as a master craftsman.

Just up the road at Cerámicas Can Kinoto, Carme has been toiling away at the wheel for 30 years to produce another fine range of ceramics — and it’s her lizards that catch my eye.

Ibiza has many of the little reptiles and about 10 years ago Carme, who was born on the island, received what she thought was a curious request to produce some plates with a lizard design. Ever since, they’ve been a popular part of her portfolio. Cats — perhaps a more obvious choice — also feature regularly on her wares and amusingly sneak into the background of several designs, including paintings that form part of the collection.

Many of her beautiful works are intricately hand-painted, yet when she sets out to decorate a plate, vase or plaque, she has no idea how it’s going to finish. As a result, each piece is unique.

Both potters continue to try new ideas while preserving traditional methods that were introduced to the island by various invaders and visitors over the centuries, notably the Phoenicians and Romans.

If you speak Spanish, Carlos and Carme will happily explain and demonstrate their work.

Pop into their shops and you’ll not just pick up a special gift but witness the artistic spirit of Ibiza very much alive and thriving.
